it’s as
natural as breathing. it’s an accident, a coincidence, a natural state of mind.
we all forget.
most of
all, at times, we forget who we are. and the people around us.
we forget
that our friends are scientists, geniuses, artists, photographers, writers,
preachers, astronauts, music composers. we forget that these people we know are
parents, brothers, sisters, cousins, daughters, sons. we forget that they are
believers, non-believers, dreamers, realists. we forget that they are all so
diverse even as one being—we forget that they are not just one person, but so
many different attitudes, personalities, habits, belief, stuck in one body.
we forget
that we are made in the exact same way as they are.
we forget
how beautiful we are, how amazing we look when we try the least. we forget how
we are so similar to the people we envy the most. we forget about our humility,
kindness, and love. we forget that we are as good as our friends, families,
even strangers. we forget that we are worth every cent and effort. we forget
that we are perfect to begin with, but our perception of ourselves created a
distorted image. a broken mirror, an imperfect reflection of what we think is
ourselves.
we forget
that sometimes we need new mirrors.
so often we
live in a world that tells us how much more we need to improve, how much better
we must become, how much change we must make to ourselves to transform into a more
beautiful person. there is no wrong in those sayings, but it goes to a point
where it literally finds your self-esteem and throw it into a pit of fire. we
were made to forget good things about ourselves, and instead focus on what
advantages other people possess, or on their positive qualities. we live in a
world where we only remember to look at a person’s front: the good, the best,
all the nice things they have; and we don’t see their backs. we don’t see what
they hide in their hands, nor do we see the worst they’ve went through to come
out strong with such a beautiful front.
we forget
that we are all human, and too often we forget that we are so beautiful. we are
who we see in others. we are mothers, fathers, children, teachers, preachers,
leaders, activists, friends, brothers, sisters, shoulders to cry on, lovers,
life-changers. we are love. we are faith. we are hope. we are who we must be—we
are truth-seekers and protectors, we are legacy-bearers, we are the revolution.
if only we
could remember, and stop forgetting so much.
