11.24.2013

a polite, mandatory post of Urbanscapes 2013.

because, you know, i paid RM190.
(i'll be hyperlinking all the artists' page via their names, so click away and support!)

met the VERY talented and stunning artist, Hsu Lynn (:
oh and that's her husband Samuel Oh in the background. he's the lead vocalist for Busco!

she and a few friends of hers designed and built these globes for Urbanscapes, then she would paint the people who come and go at her booth!

Empty Plates Pavillion ; by David Yeow, Red Hong Yi & Cheryl Heap

i think what's stunning about this piece is not just the visuals of it, but the sounds that it actually makes when the wind blows! i actually thought it was rain and was looking around until i realized it was the pavilion that was making all the noises!

of bubbles, giant ears that record secrets and giant Jengas.

first band i caught : Damn Dirty Apes!
according to their Facebook page, they're a 'Penang-based space rock band'.
i don't think there's a more accurate description.

i don't always enjoy post-rock, but they were such an awesome bunch to watch!

next up we have Spoken Word Cabaret!
i didn't manage to finish watching this because we were running to catch THE show of the day/night, but it was really good seeing how there's spoken word in Malaysia! (or i hope they're from Malaysia)
the seven freaks of nature told their story one after another, and it was pretty mind-blowing.
loved it.

THE show of the day/night : Last Dinosaurs!

HIGHLIGHT OF THE NIIIIIIIGHT.
okay i was upset that they were already causing quite the scene in Malaysia, having their own fangirls and fanboys screaming ILOVEYOUMARRYME at them.
sigh. my dreams of listening to them in a loose crowd. lost forever.
but they were greaaaaaaaat (despite the half-douchey audience around us)

 SPOILS :
Customiz(ed)able fan from Sun Off A Beach!

my half-wasted Urbanscapes ticket.

a lovely piece written by the very lovely Marc Nair

pokeball quote! all for 50 cents!

the cutest stickers by Azreenchan!

amazeball socks (this and one more pair) by the amazeballs Medium Rare
(that is making me want to buy a whole lot more socks from them right now NOOOOOOO)

and namecards galore :D

Conclusion?
never go to Urbanscapes again.
jk.
it was fun! meeting people and such.
i should be braver next year. or at the whatever next event it is that i'll meet Internet-worthy or crazy-talented human beings.

people i saw but did not say hi to:
Ming Han (dmingthing)
Jeremy Choy (bboyrice / rice | photo)

next year?
(brother says he wants to sponsor me... only if i get a booth. WHAT)

This looks like such a fun and eye-opening experience. I especially love the Empty Plates Pavillion - what an idea!

And how amazeballs (word of the day, I see) would it be if you had a booth, too? (Psst! Do we get to see your art here? I remember you did say you would be posting more of your stuff here :} obviously after exams and such are over, and the pressure has vaporized).

Haha, I'm so blind that I didn't notice you'd put the link below, so scoured your blog and then googled you and found your dA -_- (why, yes, I am an idiot and ... um stalkerish? Let's just stick with idiot).

Anyways, I really like your style ^_^ They're very light and fresh and I could look at them all day long.

Ah and, in that case, best of luck! I'm sure you'll knuckle down and kick those exams' asses.

And don't worry, I always subscribe to comments so I'll see any replies ;)
