pre-Christmas.

while people are eating with their families, having parties or just meeting up with that special one, i am home, just done with my tapao-ed fried rice (which was delicious, thankyouverymuch) not wanting to go out. i plan to spend my Christmas eve at home this year--well, not that i do remember going out for any Christmas eves--watching Rise of the Guardians and wrapping my gifts slowly.

also, for the love of God, THIS is Rise of the Guardians:

not to be confused with THIS movie (Legend of the Guardians):

kind of sick and tired of friends asking me "who's Jack Frost?" when i tell them about Jack and my heart breaks a lot because that was exactly what the entire movie was about. discovering who Jack Frost was.

by the way, Jack Frost is the boy in a blue hoodie with white hair, holding a wooden staff.

ANYHOO.

a friend invited me to a BBQ Christmas dinner thing at his place and insisted me on going somehow. i apologize to this friend for feeling anti-social tonight. it could very much be the hormones. also i just naturally don't like to go for BBQs. i think i got it from my mom. don't like all the hotness and smoke and i often associate BBQ parties with lots of people constantly moving around, talking, laughing. and i'm not in the mood or strength to do that tonight. heh. so gift-wrapping it is. (sorry again Ken-Ji!)

it is also interesting to note that i am now seeing a number of photos on Facebook or statuses stating how they've bought stuff for themselves because 'it's Christmas'. so apparently Christmas is also known to be one of those times to indulge in all things good. for yourself. well okay there's nothing BAD about that--we all need some lovin' sometimes, but i truly think Christmas is about giving to others. not yourself, but ultimately, to put someone else's need above yours, especially in this festive season.

Christmas, for all the obvious reasons, reminds me of Jesus Christ. and whether if you believe in him as a God or not, we all need to agree on this: Jesus Christ was a great man, and he came to not indulge in his own needs or desires, but to put others above himself. to serve, to appreciate, to love, to help, to assist. not once he thought about himself. it was always about you, you, you, you and oh yeah you there too.

(i'm just writing as i go here. it's been TOO LONG.)

so Christmas to me, is about giving. not just gifts, but 'things' like love, kindness, a smile, forgiveness, generosity, a helping hand(not literally). it reminds me of how much we can always give, whether if it's Christmas or not. you don't need a holiday to make you buy gifts for people. make it a habit to buy and even wrap gifts for people, especially when it's not their birthday or any particular holiday that requires you to give a present. especially when they feel the worst; but even on good days, people deserve gifts too.

everybody deserves a gift, no matter the (presence/absence of an) occasion.
